Year 13 Results Day

Today, we welcomed our year 13 pupils into school to collect their A level results. It was lovely to see them all again, having last seen most of them back in March when we went into lockdown. Despite the social distancing and other measures in place, pupils were able to congratulate each other and chat to members of staff about the exciting things that lay ahead for them.

The last few months have been incredibly challenging for pupils in year 13; they’ve not just been denied the opportunity to demonstrate all that they have learned through their examinations but have also lost out on the final few months of their school career and all the opportunities and celebrations that this period would usually bring. Many will have felt as if they were not in control of their future with examination grades determined by examination boards using statistical models. They have had to deal with all the media speculation about this year’s grades and will have been particularly unsettled over the last few days by events in Scotland and unexpected announcements around mock grades.

Damian Painton, Principal, was quick to commend pupils:

“Today is a day to acknowledge the hard work that our year 13 pupils have put into their education over a number of years. These grades are the result of all those endeavours. We are incredibly proud of our pupils, all that they have achieved and, in particular, the character they’ve shown over the last few months. They are a truly impressive group of young people who will, I have no doubt, go on to achieve even greater things. We will miss them.”

Many of our pupils will embark on an apprenticeship or go off to University in the coming weeks. This includes pupils who have accepted places at Oxbridge or Russell Group Universities and on a number of highly competitive courses. Whatever pupils are moving onto next, we wish them well and thank them for their fantastic contributions to our school community.
